3 weeks agoby jonell_gallowayWe have “uncountried” ourselves, a literal translation from the French word “dépayser.” Bali removed any longing for our usual European culture-vulture, food-loving lives. We didn’t go to a single museum. The problems of Europe and the U.S. and Peter’s heart scares were the furthest thing from our minds for nearly a month. The city of Ubud was itself a work of living art with all its shrine-covered houses and water temples and bright offerings of marigolds, as was the Bambu Indah or “beautiful bamboo,” hotel where our Ana was working.
