As we see it, travel writing does not demand that you go far from home to a place utterly different. It can be based on an experience as subtle as taking a ferryboat across the water to a town you haven’t visited in years, or making a trip to check out the up-and-coming new neighborhood in your own city. In both these instances, you might want to “seal the deal” by eating something characteristically local, before you sat down to write. And there you would find the convergence of travel writing and food writing.
