The aroma of food can be responsible for as much as 90 percent of its flavor. Scientists now believe that human beings acquired the sense of taste as a way to avoid being poisoned.–Eric Schlosser, Fast Food Nation

“Eric Schlosser’s book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal was published in 2001. Schlosser, an investigative journalist, explored the deteriorated eating habits of Americans and the result and cause of them — fast-food chains, which he considers responsible for the rise in obesity. He then traces the evolution of fast food, and makes a correlation with the advent of the automobile. The book remained on the New York Times bestseller list for several years, as updated versions came out regularly, and was made into a critically-acclaimed movie in 2006.
